                SubDesk is designed to never collect, store, or share student personal information.
                That's not a marketing claim — it's built into our architecture.
            

We built SubDesk specifically for substitute teachers in K-12 schools. We understand that privacy compliance is non-negotiable in education. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it.

What Information We Collect

From Substitute Teachers (Adults)

Email address — Used to save your session data so you can return later and to send teacher reports. We never share this with third parties.
Session data — Grade level, subject, activities used, and session notes you enter. This is stored solely to generate reports.
Teacher email — The absent teacher's email address you provide to send the report. We only use it for that one-time report delivery.

What We DON'T Collect

No student names
No student email addresses
No student IDs or grades
No behavioral or performance data linked to specific students
No photos or videos of students
No location data

                Zero Student PII. By design, SubDesk never asks for or stores any personally identifiable information about students. The activity tracking is session-level, not student-level.
            

How We Use Your Data

We use the data we collect solely to provide the SubDesk service:

Generate and deliver teacher reports via email
Save your session so you can return to it later on the same device
Improve our service based on aggregate usage patterns

We never sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or any third party for marketing purposes.

Data Retention

Session data is retained to support your continued use of SubDesk. You can request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us. We retain anonymized, aggregate analytics to improve our service, but this data cannot identify individual users or sessions.

COPPA Compliance

The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) applies to websites that collect information from children under 13. SubDesk does not collect any personal information from children.

All activities on SubDesk are teacher-directed. Students use the tool under the supervision of the substitute teacher. We do not collect accounts, emails, or any data from students — making us naturally compliant with COPPA.

FERPA Compliance

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) protects the privacy of student education records. SubDesk does not collect, store, or access student education records.

Our architecture intentionally avoids collecting data that would constitute education records under FERPA. Session notes and activity usage are tracked at the classroom level, not the individual student level.

Security

We use industry-standard encryption to protect data in transit. Access to our database is restricted to authorized personnel only. We regularly review our security practices to keep your data safe.
